New LakewoodAlive website

Check out the new look of LakewoodAlive! A big shout-out to LakewoodAlivers, KC McKenna, graphic artist, and Jonathan Morgan, web developer, for our energized and inviting new e-face to the world. This fresh look is just the beginning of broader electronic services and content we plan to bring to members based on feedback from you.Paul Nickels continues to serve as consultant to our internet-based efforts. Thanks, guys!

Thanks, also, to David Lay who contributed to the spectacular homepage photo collage. Take a look - the link is at the foot of this page. We look forward to hearing from you about what you think about the new design and ideas you have for enhancement.

CitiStat Reports Online

Jennifer Pae, City Finance Director, has posted online CitiStat reports for nine city departments that are operating under the CitiStat process.

LakewoodAlive members will recall the fall, 2005 forum held on this subject, which requires highly structured reporting meetings and data-based decision making to drive accountablity in city government operations.

Mayoral Debate

LakewoodAlive members should be aware that an effort was made to schedule a debate between the three candidates running for office. Two dates were offered along with a proposed format, but schedule conflicts prevented the current mayor from making the committment. LakewoodAlive is on record with all three candidates requesting that a post-primary debate be scheduled prior to the November general election.

Public Hearing: CDBG Funds

Lakewood's Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) is charged with the responsibility of reviewing applications for and developing recommendations to City Council on the disbursement of federal funds that the City receives from HUD. Once reviewed and acted upon by City Council, these recommendations are incorporated into the City's One-Year Action Plan.

It is estimated that the City will receive $2,242,046 in CDBG funds from HUD for Fiscal Year 2008. This is a preliminary estimate, and the actual amount may change at the time of funding. CDBG funds support a range of programs that address Lakewood's community development needs, including: housing rehabilitation, infrastructure, social services, and economic development. The CAC is currently reviewing sixteen (16) proposal requests submitted for FY 2008 CDBG funding.

A Public Hearing on the CAC recommendations will be held Thursday, September 13, 2007 at 7:00p.m. in City Hall Auditorium
