LakewoodAlive Endorses School Levy

LakewoodAlive, Lakewood’s nonprofit economic development organization endorses the Lakewood City School’s decision to place a 6.9 mill levy on the May 2010 ballot.

LakewoodAlive believes that education is the best investment our community can make. The dividend payoff is incalculable for our children and for our city.

Education is a critical component of a community’s economic health and schools indisputably influence property values. A fiscally strong, high performing school system will help support continued business investment in the community. Strong schools educate the local labor force, help develop entrepreneurial skills and transition new workers into the market. Strong schools are also an important quality of life consideration for drawing new workers and residents to the area.

The link between the quality of public schools and property values has been long established. As the “City of Homes” at the time of a national housing crisis, supporting Lakewood Schools has never been more important. Our housing stock must be maintained to protect its value. Strong schools provide residents with the necessary confidence to invest in their properties.

With the recent ranking of “Excellent” by the State of Ohio and consistently prudent fiscal management, Lakewood City Schools has earned the community’s trust. LakewoodAlive believes that passage of this levy is essential to the community’s economic stability and growth.
